This MSc is ideal for financial professionals, corporate directors or those who wish to become board members, investors wishing to plan for their pension, union leaders, engineers, architects and real estate property owners, mutual fund managers and trustees. The programme is made simple. Though it is comprehensive, it contains few mathematics. It includes six parts and may change significantly your personal as well as your professional life.
By the end of the programme, you will be ready to become board director or work in a board of directors. You will learn to manage a pension fund, manage union money and contributions, manage risk as a property owner, and learn how investors can earn the best from financial advisors and portfolio managers.
The MSc in Governance & Fiduciary Risk and Duty consists of the following subjects:
1. RISK MANAGEMENT
This module looks at the concepts of creditworthiness and trustworthiness and how it affects differently operational risk for clients. It examines major case studies of product recalls, fraud and abuses in manufacturing and finance and how they happened
2. WEALTH MANAGEMENT
This module looks at financial advice and portfolio management in finance: how it works, its regulation, conflicts of interest and why client investors are more at risk than with credit banks. It also examines the various models of pensions/life insurance and risk applications.
3. GOVERNANCE
This module looks at governance and what it means for a wide range of stakeholders and organizations: where can it make more difference in value creation? Key differences between for profit (corporations, trusts, etc.) and no-for-profit organizations (governments, NGOs, charities, etc.) are analysed.
4. FIDUCIARY RATING IN FINANCE
This module looks at how to rate financial advisors and investment managers: what to look for, what to avoid. You will learn how to recognize and assess structural risk and systemic risk in a fiduciary case.
5. FIDUCIARY RATING IN REAL ASSETS
This module looks at real asset management in construction and infrastructure: from funding and bidding to designing, constructing, operating and maintenance. It will take you through asset management approach, through servitisation and the case of building and managing real estate property.
6. STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
This module looks at the difference between top down and bottom up governance: how it can change an organisation, raise the engagement of employees and smooth out the execution of a corporate strategy. You will learn what makes the most productive and efficient organisations.
In addition, you will have to write a 10,000-word dissertation. The dissertation is a major part of the MSc and tests your ability to formulate complex and nuanced thinking, communicate it intelligibly and intelligently, and manage a project that is expected to last for several months. You should start thinking about the topic of your dissertation long before the completion of the programme. The dissertation must be on a topic agreed with your tutor. If upon submission the dissertation is not deemed to be of an acceptable standard, then you will need to re-submit your dissertation within two months and pay a resubmission fee of 100 euro.
Entry requirements are flexible and vary, but we generally demand:
(a) a first degree from the CIM (BVI) / GBU-Europe;
OR
(b) an Honours degree from an internationally accredited university;
OR
(c) a professional qualification from an internationally recognised professional body.
Upon successful completion of all modules and the dissertation, you will be awarded an MSc in Governance & Fiduciary Risk and Duty
We don’t usually offer exemptions at graduate level, but if you think you have a strong case you are welcome to complete the exemption form that is part of the application form.
Programme fees for Distance Learning students are set at 4,000 euro. On top of the programme fees, you will need to pay an application fee of 80 Euro and examination fees (130 euro per subject).
For Centre students, fees vary according to Centre.
Exams are held at approved examination centres around the world every June and January. In order to be eligible to take exams in January, students must submit their Examination Entry Form by 30 November; to take their exams in June, by 30 April.
